Learning while playing (for infants aged 3 - 6)
The little "students" of our nursery school have the option of staying at school beyond the ending of the school programme and occupy themselves with a special programme of activities, mainly creative play. At this age the beneficial influence of play is of paramount importance in developing a child's learning abilities. Through games children can act roles, replace real objects with symbols and develop the ability to create mental pictures.
Our Greek-German-speaking nursery school teachers who are responsible for the afternoon classes utilize the materials at their disposal and create an appealing environment. In this environment children are encouraged to actively participate in activities using both Greek and German while enjoying themselves at the same time. Such activities also aim at boosting the children's self-confidence and helping them intergrate with the rest of the social group and learn to work in teams. This programme of creative engagement which allows time for an afternoon nap also includes lunch following a diet designed especially for children of these ages - at the school restaurant/canteen.
