Afternoon school study for the subjects of the following
day is a vital part of the learning process. This programme
aims at helping students complete the preparation of their
homework at school, both in Greek and in German, so that kids
can return at home ready for the next day. An equally significant
goal for the first classes of Primary School however, is to
encourage kids to develop their own method and autonomy in
their study.
Skilled educators monitor and encourage kids in these very
first steps and teach them proper time management.
Pupils are placed in small groups depending on their class,
and do their homework right after their lunch break at the
school restaurant.
The students, who have registered for the afternoon school
and stay at school to do their homework, are also given the
chance to attend - on their day of preference- any of the
arts or sports activities presented in this leaflet. In this
case, the programme of studying is adjusted accordingly.
Programme of afternoon studying(for children of the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade)
Having completed their morning program and eaten at the school
restaurant, pupils can remain at school and be embodied into
the Afternoon School Study Program. Educators, who supervise
and assist them, intervene to their work in a discrete and supportive
manner.
Children have already learnt how to study and organize their
time effectively. What they need at this stage is proper guidance,
so that they are able to check and correct their mistakes on
their own.
Teachers provide students with the right stimuli and are well
aware of how and when they need to help them in doing their
afternoon tasks. The aim of this programme is to help students
be autonomous in their studying of Greek, German and English,
so that they can depend on their abilities and will not need
their parents' assistance at home.
Afternoon
German Class (for all the students)
The aim of the afternoon courses is to give children a greater
chance to be exposed to the language and consolidate the structures
and vocabulary learnt, placing emphasis on the communicative
approach of language teaching.
Children who may face some difficulties in German or want to
reinforce this language can attend these afternoon classes and
be effectively helped at school.
English
Language Support Courses(for the pupils of the 3rd ,
4th, 5th and 6th Grade)
Afternoon classes for English Language Learning consist of small
groups. Both support and consolidation classes are offered.
Support classes are suitable for pupils who are willing to devote
more time to their English language learning and extend their
knowledge.
Consolidation classes, on the other hand, recycle , practice
and reinforce grammatical and vocabulary items already taught.
On the whole, afternoon classes highlight the communicative
aspect of the foreign language. Vocabulary is effortlessly
consolidated through the use of games, songs, narration, dialogues
and role-playing. The lesson is enriched by modern audiovisual
teaching aids in order to draw kid's attention.
IT(for children of
the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade)
Information
technology is a rapidly advancing science. These changes affect
our orientation in education. One of the new aims is to train
children how to learn on their own, search, select and assess
information that they will then turn into knowledge.
It would not be possible to achieve this aim without the worldwide
net of computers, the Internet, which is the most powerful source
of information.
In the afternoon classes, children use computers, surf the net,
communicate with students all around the world and gather information.
They also learn to upload their own work to the net and create
their own web pages, which are hosted in our server.
Furthermore, students learn how to create their own multimedia
applications.
"Junior
Scientists" Team(for the 5th and 6th Grade)
A very interesting team leaves its mark on our school life every
year. The pupils of this team, explore, experiment and discover
knowledge in a...natural way. Little scientists in action come
along ready to interpret their experiments, explain the natural
phenomena of our surrounding world and enrich their knowledge
of Natural Sciences. The vital ingredients for this are imagination,
inspiration, willingness and a yearning for knowledge.
